Mary Jane believes that all true help comes from the Lord God, Who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121).
Mary Jane specializes in marriage and couples counseling and support for individual family members, when appropriate. Mary Jane is licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor and is board certified as a National Certified Counselor. Her approach to counseling is a solution-oriented, brief style of therapy that emphasizes solutions and strengths rather than focusing on the past and causes. Mary Jane has also fulfilled the requirements to be a court-appointed Parenting Facilitator and is licensed as a Texas Mediator as well as a Family Mediator in the state of Texas. Mary Jane often uses cognitive- behavioral therapy to help clients confront unrealistic thoughts and challenge faulty thinking. When appropriate, Mary Jane incorporates Biblical principles into counseling.
Mary Jane is certified as a Gottman Seven Principles Leader and has completed Level 1 Training with Dr. John Gottman. She is also certified by Michele Weiner-Davis as a Keeping Love Alive® relationship leader as well as a Marriage Breakthrough® seminar presenter. Mary Jane has formerly served as a DivorceCare® group co-facilitator and has received additional counseling training from pastoral counselors. As a former elementary/secondary teacher and school counselor as well as a former university instructor, Mary Jane has over 30 years of working with parents and students. Mary Jane has a Master of Science degree in counseling as well as a Master of Education degree in special education from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Mary Jane has been in private practice as an LPC in McKinney, Texas since 2006.
